In celebration of International Women's Day, we're paying homage to the STRONG and AMAZING WOMEN behind our dresses from design to real life brides. Each day we'll bring you our design muse with a real life bride to bring them to life, in the quirky surroundings and the garden greenhouse rooftop of The Culpeper, the perfect place for an intimate wedding reception.
Today, is real bride Kathryn as Josephine Baker, in a video of behind the scenes film at the shoot, with the final look.
Kathryn, a trainee anaesthetist currently working in Kent but a London-girl originally, wore one of our past species for her special day - the Tamara dress - sophisticated and striking, she looked positively stunning. For the IWD shoot, Kathryn wore one of our classics, the Josephine, styled with some ultra glam Stephanie Browne jewels and art deco Emmy London shoes.
The Josephine dress is inspired by none other than the iconic Josephine Baker. A juggernaut of female power and talent, Josephine was a pioneer in dance, with her provocative and controversial shows. She gave a great deal back to the world, walking side by side with Martin Luther King in his rallies and being an active force in the civil rights movement. Before the likes of Mia Farrow and Angelina Jolie, Josephine adopted 12 children who she called her Rainbow Tribe! She was an inspiration across all facets of culture, but of course, in fashion. With her love of bias cut slinky dresses, we created the Josephine in homage to her, serving daring old Hollywood glamour and classiness in equal measure. Our very own Kathryn even had a poster of Josephine Baker growing up as a teenager due to her love of the inspirational women.
As a muse to many an artist of the 20th century, Hemingway said it best himself: She was “the most sensational woman anyone ever saw”.
