Sabina Ali, studied Textile and Knitwear at DeMontfort University and spent several years in design and production in fashion and media for Naf Naf, Jigsaw, Marks & Spencer and Virgin Clothing, including a stint at Condé Nast Publications, Channel 4 and on numerous projects as a fashion stylist. In a change of direction she developed her graphic design skills and worked at Lehman Brothers, where she became aware of the great importance of branding and finance. In 2005, she received commissions to design cocktail-style wedding dresses. They were a huge hit and other orders quickly followed. There was clearly a gap in the market and the idea for Motasem was born. In the summer of 2006, Sabina won an award on the New Entrepreneur Scholarship and was selected to showcase her collection at Zandra Rhodes’ Fashion and Textile museum. Sabina made the difficult decision to leave her full-time city job in May 2008 and hasn’t looked back since

Two new dresses, Alaya (cowl neck dress) and Aurora (silky stretch satin pleated dress), looked stunning on the black carpet at the UK première of international hit movie “Twilight”, starring Robert Pattinson and Kirstin Stewart. The British Libary have a fashion exhibit of two of Motasem's dresses, Nightingale and Lotus on display at the Business and IP centre.

Prices start from £550 for wedding dresses, £175 for cocktail/day-to-evening dresses, made in the UK, available within 5-weeks with matching groom’s accessories and bridesmaids. Wedding dresses use natural silks (haven’t undergone a dyeing process so it’s kinder to the environment than normal silks) and can be transformed afterwards into a chic party frock. Motasem is the middle name of Sabina Ali, meaning “having an attractive and imposing appearance suggestive of health and strength; good-looking and beautiful”.
